Let's Build A (Profitable) National High Speed Rail System!

High-speed passenger rail service just isn't profitable in most areas of the United States. It works very well in Europe, in Japan and in other places. But not here. Nevertheless it is possible to capitalize on the strengths of the American economy to produce an Americanized version of high-speed rail service, including passenger service.

What we really need in the U.S. is a high-speed rail system for moving freight. Anyone who has driven one of the main interstate highways has witnessed how they are clogged with long-haul truck traffic. This is really sad and is an indictment of our current transportation economy. A tractor-trailer is an inefficient way to move freight over long distances. It is expensive and it requires a lot of fuel and truck maintenance and highway maintenance.

Amtruk.org is a plan for a national high-speed railroad system optimized for transporting long-haul trucks by rail. Such a system, if carefully designed, can be very profitable. Such a system must accomplish two goals: (1) It must provide a less expensive method for moving a tractor-trailer from one city to another, and (2) It must relocate that tractor-trailer to its destination city significantly faster than driving the interstate highway.

Any system that can achieve these two goals for a reasonable capital outlay should be seriously considered. This Amtruk.org website shows how this can be done.

You say you would rather have a national high-speed passenger service, instead? Just build Amtruk.org, collect your profits from hauling the trucks, then run your high-speed passenger service as part of the same system! Instant nation-wide high-speed passenger service.

The Vision
Have a glimpse at what a high-speed railroad system of the future might really look like:

All Aboard!

Why is that rig driving into a passenger car? Because the train travels over a hundred miles an hour, so it must be streamlined and smoothly connected to the other cars to avoid creating air resistance. It has to be completely covered to protect the tractor-trailer inside. The windows are there to provide light and viewing if the driver chooses to stay with the rig during the railroad portion of the hauls.

The key problem that has to be solved is how to get that rig into the railcar and then get the railcar into a train and moving at high speed toward the destination city quickly. This loading and unloading operation is an unwanted delay. It is critical that it be done quickly and efficiently. Click the following link to see how.

Effect On Truck Driving Jobs
New technology on the scale of Amtruk.org tends to shake things up. It could spell trouble for someone who drives a truck for a living. Here is a look at the possible impact of Amtruk.org on the long haul truck driver:

You say we already have a system of intermodal transportation? Not like Amtruk.org. The Amtruk.org system lets the tractor and the trailer drive straight onto the railcars. The driver can go, too. And unlike today's intermodal systems, everything moves on schedule at high speed! The very fact that so many long-haul trucks are clogging our major interstate highways is plenty of evidence that current intermodal methods are woefully inadequate.

Amtruk.org--We need to build us one of these!
